Our building has enrolled in a program that will offer free replacement of all light bulbs in the building with energy saving CFL bulbs
New CFL bulb recycling procedures and bins
New Battery recycling procedures and bins
Clothing Recycling through Wearable Collections
Green cleaning products to be introduced into the cleaning program and upkeep of our building
Acquisition of a Bag Snagger to remove plastic bags from our trees which will be paid for by a grant from the City and shared with the Upper Green Association to benefit our community.

IDEAS & SUGGESTIONS THAT THE GREEN COMMITTEE IS EXPLORING

Exploring the use of an Ozone system for Pool and Jacuzzi in compliance with the NYC Health Dept. Guide Lines to replace the existing chlorination system
Conducting a study into the feasibility of a water saving program that could lower costs of our water and sewer bills
Review what tax abatements and tax credits our building could benefit from with energy upgrades through NYSERDA
Explore how our building can qualify for tax incentives and tax credits under the new Green Roof Legislation
Improving recycling in our building through on site education classes and looking into more effective and cost saving methods to dispose of recyclables in our hallway compactor rooms

Two items that cannot be recycled through the New York City Sanitation Dept are:

No. 5 Plastics (check the number under the container in the the small triangle) such as yogurt containers, take out food containers can now be dropped off at Whole Foods stores as can Brita Water Filters.
Plastic Shopping Bags can now be recycled and its very easy to recycle at virtually any store over 5,000 square feet that uses plastic bags... Duane Reade, Food Emporium, Gristedes, Bed Bath and Beyond, Staples, Gourmet Garage, Whole Foods, etc.

Plymouth Tower also has recycling bins located in the service area near the compactor room for batteries and cfl light bulbs and a clothing recycling bin is located in the package room off the mail room.
